Giant Robot is proud to host a reception and book signing with manga creator and fine artist
Junko Mizuno.
Mizuno first gained a cult following around the world for her comics, which blend the pastel
cuteness of Hello Kitty, dark imagery of erotic Japanese prints, and elements of fantasy from fairy
tales. Since then, Mizuno has expanded her audience and broadened her work to include highly
coveted figurines and shows in art galleries. However, the former Tokyoite and recent transplant
to San Francisco hasn't stopped making comics by any means. Her newest work is Little Fluffy
Gigolo Pelu.
Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu is a comic tale of a cute extraterrestrial creature that comes to Earth
determined to find true happiness in the form of a human bride. His search takes him from the
surface of his fantastic alien planet to an off- kilter modern Japan where Pelu meets aspiring
singers, sassy girls, paint- sniffing bad boys, and the body- switching students of a mysterious
high school. Artist Junko Mizuno unleashes her unique graphic storytelling sensibilities on a tale
that's frequently adorable, sometimes grotesque, and surprisingly moving.
Giant Robot was born as a Los Angeles-based magazine about Asian, Asian-American, and new
hybrid culture in 1994, but has evolved into a full-service pop culture provider with shops and
galleries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City, as well as an online equivalent.
The event will take place from 5:00 - 7:00 on Saturday, September 18. For more information
